An Update & Transition
Getting Comfortable
This year has been an absolute whirlwind of a year. I gave birth to my son in January and since then it has been a non-stop roller coaster of an adventure. In July, my husband and I bought our first house and moved our family across the city (not an easy feat with a 7 month old!), and immediately thought it was a good idea to take on house projects. My husband ripped up the carpet of one of our rooms and put wood flooring in (hello new office) and I painted, decaled, and furnished my son's room. We then go new carpet, all before October!
My work, however, has been consistent. I have been lucky to have a position as an Instructional Designer at my company for the past 2 years where I have been able to dive into building eLearnings, ILT courses, and overall just designing content. I have been utilizing Articulate Heroes to grow my understanding of Articulate Storyline and have felt my skills with the program increasing every day. To say that I have found a comfortable consistency is an understatement.
Change is Inevitable
Of course, not all things can remain the same. I strive to push myself in my designs and my eLearnings every time I build so that I am always trying something new and pushing my company further forward into the technological age. However, sometimes a Company's beliefs and an associate's beliefs grow apart. I have been so interested in working with Artificial Intelligence, but have been unsuccessful in getting any program approved to use. I want to use AI text-to-speech to create learnings that are easily altered and sound almost as good as traditional voiceovers. I want to use AI visuals and characters that move and speak like people but are so easily adjustable that if an update comes around, time is not wasted in the re-design process.
This has led me to seek opportunities for work where I can spread my wings and utilize different programs to enhance my learnings and find interesting and new ways to use AI to my advantage as a designer. Not only that, but more money would be nice too. This has lead me to accept a position at a new company where I will be working on a team of Instructional Designers and creating learning content for different departments and training needs. I am thrilled to be making this change, even if it is a bit scary.
Change is not all bad. That's all I need to keep reminding myself.
Onto the next!
